Im Bundeskanzleramt-Verfassungsdienst ist die Abteilung 4 für Medienangelegenheiten und für die Koordinierung der Fragen der Informationsgesellschaft zuständig. Dazu wurde ein Beirat für Informationsgesellschaft (BIG) eingerichtet, der regelmäßig wichtige Fragen zum Themenbereich Informationsgesellschaft erörtert, um insbesondere abgestimmte österreichische Positionen für die diversen internationalen Gremien zur Informationsgesellschaft zu erarbeiten. Auf Ebene der Europäischen Union ist hier vor allem die Positionierung und Umsetzung der Digitalen Agenda für Europa, auf Ebene der Vereinten Nationen jene für den Follow-up Prozess zum World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) hervorzuheben.
